Proofreaders: an opportunity to turn an exciting new page in your career
The Publications Office of the European Union and the European Parliament are currently looking for experienced proofreaders of Czech or Danish.
To apply, you need to have a perfect command of Czech (or Danish) (your first language) and a thorough knowledge of English, French or German. These positions require accuracy and precision and an ability to prioritise and organise work effectively. You will also need to have good communication skills and be able to consistently deliver high quality results.
Your tasks, amongst others, will be to:
* Prepare manuscripts in electronic format or on paper. This involves checking spelling grammar and syntax and reviewing texts for their coherence and uniformity;
* Proofread electronic manuscripts in terms of typography and input authors’ corrections;
* Prepare and check proofs for publication in various formats and media;
* Liaise with authors' departments to revise texts from a linguistic point of view;
* Ensure documents comply with the European Union's Interinstitutional style guide;
* Translate short texts or parts of documents into Czech (or Danish) from another official EU language;
* Check that texts translated into Czech (or Danish) are consistent with the original language they were drafted in;
* Review the quality of work performed by outside contractors in the field.

Requirements
* You must have completed a course of post-secondary education in a relevant subject and have a minimum of 3 years' professional experience proofreading publications in the Czech (or Danish) language, OR have completed secondary education and have a minimum of 6 years' professional experience, including 3 years' proofreading publications in the Czech (or Danish) language.
* Experience in or knowledge of editing, publishing, translation, language teaching and/or specific IT tools used in publishing would be an asset.
In the selection procedure, an open competition organised by the European Personnel Selection Office, your abilities, language skills and professional proficiency as a proofreader will be assessed in a series of tests and exercises.
Registration closes on 26 June 2012 at 12.00 (midday) (CEST).
