The role: Linux and Windows System Administrator, Corporate Engineering
As a Linux and Windows Systems Administrator, Corporate Engineering you will be responsible for supporting the needs of Google?s corporate server infrastructure. Systems Administrators are highly technical and directly work with server and service owners to ensure reliability and sustainability of the Google service infrastructure as well as compliance with internal policies. In order to be successful in this role you will support servers in a mixed operating system environment and work directly with our internal technology providers as well as other operations groups. Our internal customers rely on your guidance when it comes to design decisions and you will therefore play an important role in keeping the business productive.
Responsibilities:
* Support Google?s complex corporate server and service environment.
* Develop, coordinate and drive local and world-wide server level projects.
* Ensure compliance of server infrastructure with Google policies.
* Optimize existing environment based on business and security needs.
* Ensure the overall reliability of services that Googlers are dependent on.
Minimum Qualifications
* BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related field (In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant work experience)
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with mixed operating systems (e.g. Linux, Red Hat, Windows, Mac OS X, etc)
* Experience in configuration management of operating system platforms
* Experience in Unix or Windows fleet management activities
* Fluency in at least one high-level programming language (e.g. Python/Perl)
* Understanding of virtualization technologies
* Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, webservers and LAN/WAN environments. Knowledge of OS internals (file systems, storage, process lifecycle, etc)
