The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is a basic research institute funded by 20 member states and one associate member state. More than 80 independent research groups cover the spectrum of molecular biology at five sites: the main Laboratory in Heidelberg - Germany, and outstations in Hinxton (the European Bioinformatics Institute) - England, Grenoble - France, Hamburg - Germany, and Monterotondo - Italy.
Job Description:
The Secretary for the Genome Biology unit will work closely with the heads of the unit to support the organisational aspects of the unit. (S)he will provide administrative support to the nine groups in the programme.
This includes making travel arrangements, organising meetings and seminars and the organisational logistics of visiting scientists and newcomers. (S)he will also interact with the general administration at EMBL and be responsible for correspondence and reports for the heads of the unit.
Qualifications and experience:
The post requires secretarial, administrative and organisational skills, discretion and respect of confidentiality, willingness to pay attention to detail while being able to complete multiple parallel tasks and a natural ability to deal with many people of different nationalities in a friendly manner.
The ideal candidate will have relevant education, training and work experience, preferably in an international or scientific environment. In addition to fluency in written and spoken English, a good working knowledge of German is also required. Strong skills in commonly used office software are required, e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet browsers, E-mail.
Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, with a demonstrated track record for working well in team environment, while having an independent and motivated attitude.
Contract:
An initial contract of 3 years´ duration will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.
